Anyway, yesterday was Thaipusam, one of the Hindu festival. Went to Little India with Yunshan to see how the festival goes. The journey to Little India boosted up Shan and my knowledge on this festival and we also understand more about the Hindu temple.
Let me briefly tell you about Thaipusam.
Thaipusam is one of the most colourful and ritualistic festival celebrated in Singapore. This annual event is held in honor of the Hindu God Subramaniam (Lord Murugan). It is observed as a day of prayers, thanksgiving for wishes granted, fulfillment of vows and for good health. The ceremony starts in the early morning where devotees carrying milkpots and wooden Kavadis leave Sri Perumal Temple. The elaborately decorated spiked Kavadis set off in the later part of the morning and continue till late night. These devotees will undertake a 3km walk from Sri Perumal Temple to Sri Thandayuthapani Temple. On reaching the Sri Thandayuthapani Temple, the devotees get into a joyful frenzy as they offer the milk they have been carrying to Lord Murugan.
Anyway back to my story, I met up with Yunshan at Bugis for lunch and we headed to Little Indian.
When we reached Little Indian, they had already started walking.
Someone just proved what I just said.
The following video shows what they do during the festival.
I guess yesterday was the first time I saw so much and I mean SO MUCH indian on the street. It's just like a scene at Orchard during New Year Eve or Christmas. I just felt a bit disgusted when I got some skin contact with the Bangalas. *vomit*
And we also went to the National Museum Of Singapore AGAIN~ That's my third visit there and Shan's first visit. LOL. Fortunately we didn't miss out the Thaipusam. The taking off of the Kavadis.
The process seems to be painful.
On the way home, I was asking Shan how am I going to blog about the dot on our forehead. I was thinking of writing,
"The red dot on our forehead didn't works! I try to send Yunshan some photos via that holy 'Infra Red' by it fails."
It's just self entertainment things between Shan and me. LOL.
- We must not wear any shoe when entering the temple.
- The red dot is mainly for Female gods and the white is for Male gods.
- Thaipunsam is a day where Hindus get their wish granted by carrying the Kavadis.
- The Infra Red didn't work anyhow. (This is for fun. You can skip this.)
- This festival is somehow similiar to our chinese's Shan Tai Zhi thing where chinese pierces sword via their mouth and stuff.
- I don't hate Indians! But I hate Bangalas except Rubaya. I love Hindus culture.
